1.
Mommy and Daddy don't get along anymore,
That's what they told Shira and me just before.
I said to Daddy: "Give Mommy a kiss
Look here, sweet like that, right on her lips.
Apologize both, I tried to explain,
And go back to being friends again!"

2.
In the beginning I thought it was something minute
But then Daddy said: "It's not like a simple dispute.
It isn't a case of being upset and not wanting to listen,
Mommy and I have talked about it and really tried to reason.
We listened to each other and have reached a conclusion -
Parting as good friends is the best solution."

3.
Mommy listened to every word,
And quickly added her own explanations:
"Daddy won't be living in another world,
and we can expect to get many visitations.
If we shall miss him, we could always call
and together talk, everyday, on the telephone."

4.
Almost immediately I burst into tears
But then felt Daddy pinching me near the ears.
As I yelled, one kiss landed on that top of mine:
"Daddy! You're prickly as a porcupine!"

5.
After we've finished laughing, Daddy said
That if I ever feel upset, to go right ahead.
And whenever our hearts will cry
We can always count on our Daddy to be nearby.

6.
At night I really prayed to God,
and told him how my life turned odd.
I was hoping he has a miracle at hand -
a small one, a leftover, a Hanukah brand.
A miracle that would bring my family, like before,
to live in the same house, forevermore.

7.
Although God didn't take the bait
Daddy said how it was great.
How wonderful it is
That I turned out a wiz;
Expressing my feelings in such a way
Isn't something you see everyday.

8.
In the morning, when I woke
I had a dream - what a joke!
It was one of those annoying dreams,
Like when you see a monster that screams.

9.
I was suddenly feeling a little bizarre,
So I went by myself to check where they are.
I started out towards my parents' room -
Slowly and quietly, like a witch on her broom.
Suddenly it became as clear as glass.
That it wasn't really a dream, alas!

10.
Not a single whistling sound of a snore
can be detected from behind the door.
Daddy is not lying there
His pillow is resting bare.
It's only Mommy- sleeping away,
covered to the top with her cotton duvet.
I came to the warm bed, just for a sec,
Hugged and gave her a kiss on the neck.

11.
I understand everything now;
All the things Daddy told me - wow!
"When I will not be here," he said with his tone,
"you will be wise and all full-grown."
"my child, you are strong," he added with joy,
But I'm only a kid, not a cowboy!

12.
My Daddy is sometimes all confused, it is known.
While eating an orange he may say: "yummy, cone."
When we were at the beach, the other day,
he tried to catch a wave for me, okay?
Of-course at the end, you can bet your cash,
Into the water he fell, with a big "splash."
Please don't think my Daddy's insane -
it only looks like he drank a whole bottle of champagne.

13.
He always tells me many jokes, he's got a lot,
Sometimes they're funny, and sometimes they're not.
But his stories I like most of all,
Where the crowd roars and the heroes call.
Daddy makes up the story as he goes along, I confess.
Like us children he enjoys it just as much, I guess.

14.
Whenever he gets early off work
He teaches my little sister how to dance with a smirk.
And when we go to the movies together
Daddy keeps laughing, it seems like forever.

15.
I love it when Daddy and I get wild,
Making believe that he's suffering - what a child!
"do you surrender?" I ask him then,
And Daddy yields all over again.

16.
So,

What will happen when to him I want to go?
Who will I tell about my broken bow?

What will we do on Saturdays and holidays in a row?
And to the parents' meeting, who will show?

How do you decide where to stay, though?
And what about birthdays and presents - what a blow!

What will I do when I feel slow,
Or just want to say "hello"?
I honestly don't know!

17.
Daddy is speaking softly to me, he doesn't shout.
He says we'll figure things out, without a doubt.
He hasn't got all the answers just yet,
But he's prepared to do anything, even sweat!
If we manage to give each other the time and respect,
Everything will be fine, he assured - we'll feel the affect.

18.
Regarding the gifts -
The situation shifts!
Two presents, not one,
To receive is fun.

19.
On Saturdays and holidays we go on long walks,
With Daddy or Mommy and Granny who talks and talks...
In the meantime I've found
Visits change the story around;
Cool games and loud screams
Are the best source for good dreams.

20.
Now I already understand -
Daddy and Mommy separate, it's planned.
"That's life," Granddaddy said,
one night as I was sitting on my bed.
And I heard from a reliable source,
That in English they call it "divorce".

21.
"Divorcing," "separating," who cares,
For me these are just words, like,
"chairs," "bears," and "stairs."
But the most important thing is,
Daddy and Mommy love me, there's no quiz.
In the whole world and to the stars -
They know it even on Mars!
