The Microwave Culture / Asaf Zilberberg
One of the problems of the political and public systems is that many players (politicians, organizations and the people) try to simplify complex situations into short explanation that does not answer all the problem elements. In addition, the public wants easy and simple solutions. Some of the reasons for this can be found in ignorance, lack of patience, tolerance for others, or lack of interest regarding the real situations of some of the people and their problems in life.
I think we can relate to some of the above as “The Microwave Culture” in which we expect immediate results. The problem in the approach is (as everyone who use microwave knows…) that in the microwave action, the product has already been made (usually for us) before we put it inside. In the social case, we need to do the preparation ourselves. For that reason, some of the microwave solutions are not possible in the social case.
I hope that the idea and example help to make and clear my point.
There are many social problems that in order to make plans to solve them we need hard work for long periods of time. In addition, we need to realize the different between problems that we can solve and problems that we need to learn how to handle and manage. I think and believe that we can improve the public and political systems if each of us will be responsible citizen and involve in our society in some level.
In my opinion, the government should be as minimal as possible regarding interfering in people’s private life and choices and should be as maximize as needed regarding public service, fare opportunities system and support systems for the people.
Social, economical and political plans can and should be based on real information (and real and relevant criticism), imagination, creative and realistic thinking and also balanced approach.
